Riquísimo historical and cultural patrimony, and the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the landscapes and the nature of Cangas de Onís, including in the National Park of the Tips of Europe, have done of this council one of great attractive the tourist ones of Asturias.

En el año 722, en Covadonga, que es hoy centro de la devoción mariana y símbolo del Principado de Asturias, tuvo lugar la legendaria batalla contra la ocupación musulmana, con la cual Pelayo inició la Reconquista de España.

Rara es la visita a Covadonga que no se completa con la subida a los Lagos. Tras 11 kilómetros de subida por una carretera sinuosa, los lagos de Enol y de La Ercina reposan a más de 1.000 metros de altitud. En la Vega de Enol, el 25 de julio se celebra la Fiesta del Pastor (de Interés Turístico Nacional), en la que entre otras actividades, tienen lugar carreras de caballos montados a pelo o la famosa escalada a la Porra de Enol.
